Twenty four year old Leisl Packer is an inspirational young Australian. Recently announced as the 2004 Young Queenslander of the Year, Leisl is dedicated to making Australia a better place to live. Leisl's most notable achievement is her work at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research into understanding the genetic pathways that lead to melanoma - an issue highly relevant for all Australians. Liesl dedicates much of her free time to the community, participating in a number of committees and visiting school students to discuss careers in science and the dangers of skin cancer. Liesl has inspired many other young Australians to strive for academic, sporting and artistic excellence, while at the same time maintaining a strong sense of social and community spirit. She is indeed an outstanding young Australian.
